Ultrastructure of spermiogenseis and spermatozoa of Taenia parva

چکیده

We studied the ultrastructure of spermiogenesis and of the mature spermatozoon of Taenia parva, an intestinal cestode of the common genet, Genetta genetta. Spermiogenesis in T. parva is characterized by the growth of the axoneme externally to a cytoplasmic extension. After a slight rotation, the free flagellum fuses with the cytoplasmic extension. This pattern corresponds to type III spermiogenesis according to the scheme proposed by Bâ and Marchand. The zone of differentiation lacks both striated roots associated with the centrioles and the intercentriolar body between them. Nevertheless, the flagellar rotation of about 45 is observed in this species. On the other hand, the mature spermatozoon of T. parva, as in other cestodes, is filiform, tapered at both extremities and lacks mitochondria. The presence of a single crest-like body, periaxonemal sheath, and transverse intracytoplasmic walls are also characteristic ultrastructural features. The pattern of spermiogenesis and the ultrastructural organization of the spermatozoon of T. parva are compared with the available data on cyclophyllideans and, in particular, species of the family Taeniidae.

The Effect of Chronic Spinal Cord Injury on Ultrastructure of Epididymal Sperm in Rat

Purpose: The effects of chronic SCI on ultrastructure of spermatozoa aspirated from epididymis of rats. Materials and Methods: 45 adults Wistar rats were divided into 3 groups of SCI, control and sham. Following laminectomy, SCI was induced with a 15g weight dropped from a distance of 10 cm, onto exposed dura matter at T10 level. Sham group underwent laminectomy of T10 only, while control was n...

Fertility in men with primary ciliary dyskinesia presenting with respiratory infection.

BACKGROUND Primary ciliary dyskinesia is characterised by chronic rhinosinusitis, chronic bronchial sepsis (usually with bronchiectasis), dextrocardia in approximately 50% of cases, and male infertility. The latter, described in patients attending infertility clinics, results from immotile but viable spermatozoa. Experience in a respiratory clinic suggests that infertility in men is not invaria...

Effects of Extender and Storage Time on Motility and Ultrastructure of Cooled-Preserved Boar Spermatozoa

Artificial insemination (AI) using fresh diluted semen is used worldwide in the porcine industry. Viability of spermatozoa in diluted semen depends on several factors, such as the interaction with the type of extender and storage duration. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of extenders and storage time on the motility and ultrastructure of cooled-preserved boar spermatozoa. Seme...
